Here are some shows I wish I could unearth clean clear SBD's of...(no disrespect at all to the excellent tapers who make these shows available AT ALL, and some are actually quite respectable for sound, but the following shows are SO good, they really need every note heard in crystal clear clarity to reveal just how majestic the performance was.)

10/12/84 #1 on my all time wish list. The 2d set of this show is a thing of mystical beauty. I rarely listen to "space" but this one is so intricately essential to the flow of the UJB>PITB>DEW masterpiece that it becomes one of the best "songs" of the journey. In a year that was VERY hit or miss, and one in which Jerry was orca-sized and often out of it, this show stands as an exceptional tour de force for ANY year and one worthy of a clean crisp board.

4/13/83 Patrick Gym at UVM might as well be a high school gym...having seen the Catamounts play there I can attest to that. It's tiny and intimate and maybe not the best acoustically but the joint was ROARING the night of this show, and with good reason. The Scarlet>Fire would get far more attention if a clean board of this show existed. There's tons more cool stuff too...a packed and eclectic set list.

6/4/77 What's most frustrating about a lack of a SBD for this show is that it boasts what is by far the most daring and eclectic and interesting set list of any show from this stellar year. '77 is by far my favorite Dead year but if there's one minor complaint it would be that many of the set lists are fairly homogenous, but not this one. There's a killer PITB>Franklin's late in the 2nd set and much more, including a wicked Eyes and overall awesome '77 magic. Bummer that this unique set list of a show has no board.

12/16/78 A deservedly well reviewed show, but even tho' many swear the AUD is so good it doesn't need a board, I respectfully disagree. Great Scarlet>Fire in this one, but I often find it difficult to appreciate it on the level it deserves to be.

6-24-70 is "the one" for me that needs a SBD.

I believe 10-12-84 has a SBD and Matrix as listed below.

I asked DL at the Knick in '09 (a Dead show) about a board copy and he said (with some assurance) that there wasn't one.

Thank God that will never happen. What makes this so special (beyond the music) is the back and forth going on between the band and the audience, which would be lost in a SBD. We would lose the gasps when Boots lit another fireball and what about the "Oh, my God!" guy, ect.?

Only bad thing is the Dew is cut off. Like the AUD cuts the Eyes. HS did a nice matrix of the show that fixes the issue:

I haven't read this whole thread yet, but real quick 10/12/84 caught my eye. I just saw DSO do that one some 2 weeks ago. That show was kind of hit or miss itself, as at any show I heard a complaint or two after the show, but upon listening back to it (just did last night, some of it anyway) it had it's moments. Can't say I ever pull out 84 GD very often, so I haven't compared the GD performance as yet. I wouldn't even have cared if the show had sucked all the way through as they did a massive '68 style Alligator as a filler, into GDTRFB. I hadn't seen an Alligator since July of 2001, and this was a pretty good one. Damn good considering it was a filler encore.

Just doesn't sound crisp enough to me...too much crowd noise...always wish I could hear a crystalline version...will have to check out those Greek shows...not real familiar with those.

05-15-1983 has the best of the 83 HSFs but check out the Stella Blue, an all timer...the audience is a touch better than average...as far as 09-12, stellar set list, but no sbd, only very lean sounding aud copies...

10/12/84

To the best of my knowledge the only surviving sound board is cut halfway through the second set. I have been searching for a perfect copy of this gem since about 10/13/84 when I woke up the next morning.

This is my favorite recordings of it, even though it is an audience it has good levels, it is front of board and it isn't cut.

this is a nice recording, the best sound out of most, but has a lot of cuts

I was at that 6/4/77 Forum show, but even if I hadn't, I would feel the same way about it as you ! My third show, and one that really got me on borad, if 2/26/77 had not done the trick .

Forgot to add 1/10/79 to the list.

If there was a board for this show the SHAKEDOWN would be talked about in epic terms. There's also a killer DARK STAR in this show and an all-time MIRACLE.

It's brilliant.
